Natural death means death due to desire, infirmity, old age or general debility, without any ingredient of intension or action to terminate life and also deaths not occurring accidentally. In some circumstances suspicion may arise even though the death is a natural one . For example :-
1) Sudden death cases. By definition sudden death means death of a person who did not suffer from any injury, poisoning, violent asphyxia and dies all on a sudden or within 24 hours of starting of his terminal illness. According to definition sudden deaths are sudden serious outcome of some diseases. Such a death may cause suspicion though the person dies due to natural disease.
2) When a subject though died due to some disease, is brought to a hospital or before a doctor, after the former's death, the doctor in such a case being ignorant about the cause of death may naturally view the death with suspicion and find it difficult to certify the death as natural one only on the basis of the statement of the escorting party.
3) When death occurs very suddenly due to natural causes e.g., heart causes, in absence of anybody and the person is subsequently detected as dead.
In all such cases also as in unnatural death cases investigation for knowing the cause and circumstance of death is necessary and postmortem examination should be performed.
